Kothavarangai Poriyal / Cluster Beans Fry

Cluster Beans/Kothavarangai is also known as gawaar in Hindi.This bean is grown in India.It looks like normal beans but thinner in size.Out of this wonderful bean we can prepare a variety of dishes .It is a rich source of protein and fiber.It has a unique taste.Kothavarangai poriyal is a popular dish  prepared in Tamilnadu.It goes well with sambar rice or curd rice.  I like this vegetable more and the coconut grating added to the dish gives a special taste.Try it you too will love...




Ingredients

Cluster Beans / Kothavarngai / - 250 gms
Onion - 1
Mustard seeds / Kadugu - 1/2 tspn
Urad dal / Uluntham paruppu - 1/2 tspn
Curry Leaves - 1 spring
Asafoetida / Perungayam - a generous pinch
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tspn
Chilli Powder -  1/2 tspn
Oil - 1 tspn
Salt as needed

Method

1. Wash and cut the clusater beans.

2.Heat oil in a kadai and splutter the mustard and uraddal .Add curry leaves and asafoetida and fry it for few mins.Throw in the finely chopped onion.





3.Add the salt and fry till they turn golden brown in colour. 



4.Add the veggie .And add turmeric and chilli powder and pour in some water and close the lid and let it cook.

5.Check the seasoning and after it becomes tender add the shredded coconut and mix well.


6.Swith off the flame and serve with hot sambar sadam or curd rice.
