Hi friends Hope you all enjoyed the big festival. This is the very usual chutney recipe .I love it with idli – dosas .And can be had even with rotis and as a spread to sandwich. The tempering with sesame oil blend with this chutney and gives a irresistible flavour.I like to use sesame oil for tempering to almost all of the chutney recipes.I love the flavour but you can use any oil. Here goes the simple chutney…..
Ingredients
Onion – 1 sliced
Tomatoes– 3 chopped
Garlic cloves –2 chopped
Oil – 1 tsp
Urad dal / Ulunthamparuppu – 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves - 1 spring
Dry red chillies – 2 (or as per your spice level)
Salt to taste
For tempering
Sesame Oil – 1 tsp
Mustard seeds / Kadugu – 1/2 tsp
Urad dal / Ulunthamparuppu – 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves – 1 spring
Asafotida / Perungaya thool – a pinch
Preparation
Heat oil in a kadai and add urad dal and fry golden in medium flame.Take care not to burn them.
Add curry leaves and red chillies and asafoetida and saute it.Then add the onions and garlic and fry for few mins or till colour change.
Now add the tomatoes and salt and cook till they turn mushy.
Switch off the flame and let it cool down.Grind it to a smooth paste.
Heat oil in a kadai and splutter mustard seeds and urad dal .Add the curry leaves and switch off.Now add this tadka to the grounded chutney .Serve it with your favourite Dosas or Idlis.
