Dear friends, this is the a very simple breakfast recipe ,Rava upma.I sometimes wonder how this recipe is favourite among people.I never have great interest in making this recipe .But after a longtime last week I made this and it tasted really good , so I changed my opinion about this. Its a nutritious dish and I added only carrots but if you wish you can add beans, peas, potatoes or capsicum. This dish tastes best when it served hot.Now to this quick recipe…
Ingredients
Semolina / Rava – 1 cup
Onion – 1 chopped finely
Tomato – 1 chopped finely
Carrots – 2 chopped
Green chilli – 2 slit sidewise
Ginger – 1/2 tsp chopped finely
Water – 3 cups
Salt as needed
For Tempering
Oil or Ghee – 1 tsp
Mustard seeds / Kadugu – 1/2 tsp
Uraddal / Ulunthamaruppu – 1/2 tsp
Channa dal / Kadalai parupu – 1 tsp
Curry leaves – 1 spring
Asafoetida / Perungaya thool – a pinch
Preparation
Roast the rava for few mins until a nice aroma comes from it and set aside.
Heat oil in a kadai add the tempering ingredients one by one and fry till the dal turns golden colour.Add the green chillies and saute for a min.
Add the onions and ginger and fry .Add the carrots and saute till they turns soft.
Add the tomatoes and cook till they cooked .
Now pour the water and add required salt and allow it to boil.
When it starts boiling add the roasted rava little by little with constant stirring to avoid forming lumps.Soon the rava will absorb the water and comes shiny without sticking to the pan.Its all done and ready to serve . We prefer to have upma with sugar.
Notes:
I hate dry rava upma so I added little more water. If you want it dry use 2 cups of water.
LOOKS SO YUMMY... ACTUALLY I USED TO HAVE WITH SUGAR ONLY... MY FAVORITE...
