A traditional meal that contains essential proteins and minerals for the babies growth. This is a healthy and energetic food for babies. And one of the staple food that I feed my son daily for his lunch. Everyday I will add some different vegetables to make him not feel bored of the same taste. This is the texture I started when my boy was 6 months old. I thought of posting this before long. It was in lying my draft. Now he is 10 months old ,so I am not using the blender anymore, just mashing the food with a spoon and feeding him. Lets see the recipe.
Ingredients
Rice – 1 tbsp
Toor dal – 1 tbsp
Carrot – 1 , small sized
Potato – 1, small sized
Cumin seeds / Jeeragam – 1/4 tsp
Turmeric powder / Manjal thool – a generous pinch
Asafoetida / Perungaya thool – 1/4 tsp
Garlic – 1/2 pod, chopped
Olive oil – few drops
Ghee – 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Preparation
Grab the needed ingredients
Wash the rice and dal. Peel the carrot and dice it. Add all the ingredients in a bowl with few drops of olive oil and 1/2 cup water (always add some extra water to make the rice mushy).
Add some water to the pressure cooker and place the bowl inside with a lid. Pressure cook for 3 whistles and keep in low flame for 10 mins or until cooked. Let the pressure releases by itself and open the cooker.
Puree it to the desired texture with little salt to taste.
Transfer to a feeding bowl and add a tsp of pure ghee and give a good mix and feed your baby.
Notes:
- The texture of the puree depends purely depends on you. You can even mash with a spoon instead of using a hand blender if you are sure your baby can swallow.
- You can also use moong dal instead of toor dal.
- You can directly add all the ingredients to the pressure cooker instead using a bowl, but make sure to add enough water so that it won’t get burned.
- You can also use beetroot or potato or beans or bottle gourd with the dal.
- Increase the quantity when your baby gets older.
