Cabbage Stir Fry / Muttaikose Poriyal

This is a simple stir fry . I like cabbage and its so good for health. It contains lots of vitamins and fiber in it.This poriyal is  so easy to make with simple ingredients. This is one of the item that I make frequently. There are many variations  made in this dish.I made it very simple. You can add cooked channa dal or moong dal to it .This stir fry goes well with spicy curries and even perfect for rotis.I usually serve this with spicy puli kulambu.Lets go to the preparation….

Ingredients

Cabbage – 200 gms chopped

Onion – 1/2 chopped

Green chillies – 2 slited

Coconut – 2 tsp grated

Mustard seeds / Kadugu – 1/2 tsp

Urad dal / Ulunthamparuppu  - 1/2 tsp

Curry leaves – a spring

Asafoetida / Perungayathool – a pinch

Salt to taste

Oil – 1 tsp

Preparation

Grab your ingredients .

Heat oil in a kadai and splutter mustard seeds and urad dal and add asafoetida and curry leaves and saute for few seconds.Throw in the chopped onion and green chillies and fry till golden brown.

Add the chopped cabbage and required salt and fry for few mins.

Add 1/2 cup water and close the lid and allow it to cook for 8 - 10 mins in medium flame stirring in between.

Add the shredded coconut and give it a mix and switch off the flame.Serve this simple fry with any main course of your choice.

Notes:

  • I added desiccated coconut as fresh coconut is finished that time.I love the flavour of fresh coconut than this store bought packs.
  • I love the crunchy taste of cabbage so i don’t overcook it till soft. If you like it soft then go on cook for few more mins .
  • I like the white colour of cabbage so I didn’t add turmeric If you like you can add a 1/4 tsp.

I like Indian food. Whenever I go to an Indian restaurant in my country, i'll usually opt for this cabbage dish but over here in Malaysia they cook it with tumeric. So it's yellow in color. Yours looks good. Glad to follow you too.
