கத்திரிக்காய் சாம்பார்/ Eggplant Sambar / Brinjal Sambar

Sambar is one of the staple food in every South Indian home. This can be  prepared using toor dal / lentils combined with any veggies of our choice. Sambar pairs nicely with idli / dosa or with plain white rice. Usually Idli sambar is prepared in a prressure cooker to make the dal and veggies mushy , I will share the recipe soon.  I love making sambar as it is so easy to prepare and also healthy. This is the method suggested by my gradma. She never uses any special sambar powder in her recipes and each of her sambar has the unique flavour of the veggies she added. You can prepare different types of sambar with different vegetables . Vendakkai / Ladies finger Sambar, Kathirikai / Brinjal Sambar, Murungakkai / Drumstick Sambar , Mullangi / Radish Sambar  are so common. You can also use other veggies like bottle gourd , ridge gourd , turnip , carrot, cabbage or even bitter gourd to make  sambar. Either you can use one of the above veggies or you can use your favourite combo of veggies to prepare sambar.You can also prepare sambar without any vegetables and we call it as Vengaya sambar (i.e) sambar made using onions , the recipe will be soon online.

பருப்பு சாதம் / Paruppu Sadam

This is a simple South Indian variety rice that can be made in less than half hour. This comes handy when I am not sure what to cook or there is no veggies stock in my fridge, So you can guess how simple it is. Dal Tadka / Paruppu Kadaiyal

Today  I have come with a simple dal recipe . This is a traditional recipe and quite usual dish in every household in Tamilnadu . I love this dal with potato chips fry . This goes well with hot steamed rice topped with a tsp of ghee. I am sure even the aroma makes us droll . And this is a daily preparation in houses with kids . My mum will not add any spice to it , just the cooked dal with ghee. I liked that version very much . But hubby dear love this tadka dal , so I stick to this preparation . Whole Moong Dal / Green Moong Dal Curry / Pachai Pasi Paruppu Curry

Moong dal curry is a very healthy and yummy side for rotis as well as rice.  I like this curry along with hot steamed rice with few drops of ghee over it. This dal is rich in protein and loaded with lots of nutrients. My mom used to make this curry often as it can be made in no time  and also so good for health.  It is called as pachai pasi paruppu in Tamil. You can make this so quick ,15 mins is more enough. And the cool thing is there is no need to soak the dal . Just wash with lots of water and pressure cook and make your curry . Normally I use sprouted mung beans for the same recipe . And I love that with fluffy pooris . Try this simple yet yummy side with your rotis / pooris / rice and let me know your views….

Ladies Finger / Vendakkai Sambar

    Dear friends ,

    This is a traditional simple South Indian sambar recipe.You don’t need any special sambar  powder to prepare this yummy sambar.Sambar is a dal preparation with veggies and is made in every South Indian homes regularly and my mom prepares sambar atleast 3 times a week .Any vegetable can be used to make sambar but veggies like Drumsticks , Ladies finger , Radish makes it so flavourful.And this okra is my sons favaurite so I will prepare this once in a week.
