Pavakkai Masala Varuval / Bittergourd Masala Fry

This is a super healthy and delicious side for those who loves bitter gourd. First time when I heard the name of this recipe  from my mom , it sounded different as I never used coconut masala in bittergourd fry. But really this pairs wonderfully with rice items like sambar/rasam/curd rice. As you all know this veggie is loaded with vitamins , minerals and anti oxidants and is so good for diabetes . Mutton Chukka varuval / Mutton Fry

Mutton Chukka is a famous item that attracts most of our (non-veg lovers) attention in hotels . My father used to buy mutton chukka whenever we buy briyani from outside . It will be pretty dry and tastes awesome . This is the way my mother makes chukka at home  . Mutton is not in our regular menu , we used to buy once in a month .The only thing that annoys me is the mutton I am getting here at Leeds is not as much good as we used to get in my home town .  But I can say that its not much bad as I used to it now . I love it more spicy so adjust as per your taste. Try it if you crave for something more spicy and enjoy this with your family . Don’t forget to let me know your views about this recipe . Lets go to the preparation….

உருளைக்கிழங்கு வறுகுழம்பு /Potato Curry

Potato Varu Kulambu is our family favourite curry . Potato is  a favourite vegetable not only for kids , almost to everyone . Even when I was young  the only vegetable I eat without hesitation are potatoes . Now my son also likes the crispy items made with potatoes . Potatoes are in rich in carbohydrates . Although fried items are not recommended for high cholesterol as per health issues .

But this is not a fried item so no worries to make this curry . I learnt this delicious curry from my grandma . Simple to make but tastes extraordinary . Generally I make it a bit spicy  , if you are a mild eater then adjust the spiciness as per your taste . This goes well with steamed rice and also with tiffin items . This is a good lunch box item too. Lets see how to make this curry….

Coconut Chutney / Thengai Chutney

This Coconut chutney is a basic chutney recipe that I make quite often . This is so great with hot idlis and dosas. My family’s favourite chutney . This is a very traditional basic South Indian side dish that is usually made everyday for tiffins. This is perfect not only with idli –dosas but also with poori , pongal , chapattis and with rice too. Before marriage I ask my mom to do chutney with red chillies but my hubby likes chutneys with only green chillies. My taste too differed, I am always sticking to green chillies now-a-days . I like sesame oil for tempering as the flavour is so good but you can use any oil you wish . I know this chutney is quite a usual preparation at most  of the houses but  I am posting this simple recipe for beginners and some of my North Indian friends who keep on asking me for the recipe. Now off to the chutney preparation…

Egg Masala / Muttai Masala

Egg curry is a easy comforting dish and loved by most of us. This is a spicy thick gravy that suits well with rice as well as rotis and pulao items. The main thing in this gravy is you have to cook the onions so soft that when we eat we should not feel the crunchiness of the onions. The touch of  soft onions will give a wonderful taste to this masala. My mom will make this curry with a piece of coconut to make it creamy but I am happy to  go with onions and tomatoes, if you like a creamy texture then add 1/4 cup of grounded coconut to the masala. A small amount  of the gravy will  be enough for a cup of rice. Hope you all love this as we enjoyed with our family. Try it and let me know your thoughts….Smile
